Digital product pass
Connecting physical products with digital information
As the construction industry moves towards greater transparency and circularity, reliable information about products, materials and sustainability needs to remain accessible throughout the product's lifecycle.
At glasstec 2026, Technoform demonstrates a practical approach: a QR code printed directly onto the smooth surface of the SP14 spacer connects the physical insulating glass unit with digital product information.
The Challenge
Building products can remain in use for decades. During this time, information about their materials, components, and characteristics may be required by different stakeholders across the value chain.
For insulating glass manufacturers, this raises two practical questions:
- How can digital information be connected directly to the insulating glass unit?
- How can this information remain accessible throughout the product lifecycle?
The Solution
The smooth surface of SP14 provides a suitable area for printing a QR code directly onto the spacer. Once the spacer is installed in the insulating glass unit, the QR code remains connected to the physical product.
Scanning the code can provide access to relevant product, material, sustainability, and recycling information. Instead of applying a separate label, the concept uses the spacer itself as the carrier of the digital connection.
This connection can also provide a basis for extending digital product information along the value chain, including the window, facade element, or other finished product in which the insulating glass unit is installed.
Preparing for a More Digital Value Chain
Beyond its function in the insulating glass edge bond, SP14 can provide access to the product’s digital identity.
The Technoform concept represents a practical step towards more transparent and accessible product data, without anticipating the final details of future regulatory requirements.
