Heat transfer solutions for flue gas utilization

Corrosion resistance

Flue gas treatment brings along high demands in corrosion resistance of the used materials. Below dew point temperature, acids start to condense on heat transfer surfaces causing massive corrosion problems.
Polymer based materials are highly resistant to these conditions, and can therefore replace expensive special alloys or coated materials while ensuring a long service life.

Increased efficiency

Energy efficiency is the driver for economical operation. Still, huge amounts of heat are discharged through the chimney. The corrosion resistance of polymer based heat transfer materials enables the use of latent heat of water vapor condensation. Thereby, heat recovery is maximised and additionally process water can be produced.

Simple cleaning

Certain amount of dust and fly ashes are present in the flue gas stream. They tend to settle on the surface of heat transfer areas building up a layer. Unless regularly removed, this can lead to lower heat transfer and or even clogging of the heat exchanger over time. Polymer heat transfer areas tend to have lower adhesion to these particles and can be cleaned effectively with a lower amount of water.

Heat transfer solutions for flue gas utilization

Despite the shift towards renewables, the vast majority of global energy demand is still met through combustion processes. Their efficiency and resulting primary energy consumption greatly depends on the amount of useful energy and resources such as water that are recovered from flue gas. In order to fully utilize flue gas, heat needs to be extracted below the condensation point of water. As a byproduct, highly corrosive acids form too, leading to extreme demands on heat transfer equipment used in flue gas paths.

Technoform has developed an optimal solution to this challenge. Our heat transfer materials are highly resistant to dew point corrosion while offering excellent mechanical properties and cleanability. Their superior heat conductivity minimizes required heat transfer area especially compared to existing (fluor-)polymer solutions.

Depending on your needs, we can supply either customized profiles and connection technology for seamless integration into existing designs or entire heat exchangers together with our global network of partners.
